It is said that ‘gardens are never finished’ and it is true they evolve over time but the good ‘bones’ of a garden are essential for a cohesive scheme that stands the test of time.
Our Services
What we offer
We provide a complete garden design package to give you the peace of mind that your garden will be tailored to your needs now and in the future. We listen and communicate at every stage to deliver beautiful gardens. On the right is a concept presentation plan for a new build bungalow garden in Burford. The garden is tailored for a couple in their eighties to provide year-round interest, scent and easy access. A journey around the garden begins at the main terrace and includes two pause points; a coffee and morning sun arbour and a sundown gin and tonic seating area. The carefully chosen mediterranean planting pallet provides all-year interest and crucially is low maintenance. There are focal points that can be seen from inside with an Urban Lily Water Bowl and a sculpture on a plinth. In planning a garden the most important thing is to listen to the clients needs to create a garden that works for them.
Project one
The Story Museum asked us to design and plant three planters for their main courtyard. We delved into the history of the site and found that it used to be a Royal Mail sorting office, telephone exchange and college buildings. Hence we came up with using a pallet dolley such as those used by post office staff to house our planters. We had these specially built with an internal water system at the base to keep the trees hydrated. Three distinct schemes were planned for each container. The one shown is a Malus ‘Evereste’ (crab apple) with grasses and meadow style planting at the base. Another was an Arbutus Unedo (strawberry tree) underplanted with ferns and wild strawberries and lastly a Corylus avellana ‘Contorta’ (contorted hazel) underplanted with Japanese forest grass. We used photoshop and pictures taken on site to make montages to communicate our designs.
Project two
This canal side garden in Oxford was underused. The family walked through the first two thirds of the garden to a deck at the end where they spent their time. They decided they wanted the whole garden to work and the challenge was to create new spaces that could be enjoyed and to unify the areas. There was minimal planting and a poor lawn without a distinct path to travel to the rear. We created a journey through the garden with usable zones linked by a path. New floor tiles transformed the tiny patio outside the rear doors creating enough space for a bistro table and chairs. From there repaved steps lead you up to a second patio which catches the west facing sun. A bespoke pergola provides a structure for the existing vine and anchors the garden which has two enormous Trachycarpus fortunei. The new path takes you through the middle of the garden with lush tropical planting before travelling under an arch to the final destination next to the canal.
