Turn Intention Into Action

Not all gardens are created equal. The intention is to have streamlined processes however with some I spend a lot of time on the drawing board and thrash out the plan with many iterations before moving on to the computer to model the concept. With others the hand drawn plan grows quickly out of the survey and is then computer modelled with few changes. For some the 3d visual is really imperative and part of my creative process for others they are not required. My stages remain the same but process of action takes slightly different routes. So the intention, action and outcome are fluid and informed by the client, the site and my creative process. Part of the joy of designing is the problem solving that is different for each project. Whether a small or larger budget the challenges are different. I find listening to the intention and responding to the site and its requirement drive the direction of my design into the action that develops the concept. The inspiration for this takes many forms. Withe the PACT Visitor garden the tree beyond the boundary became a symbol of my intention. This intention became an action when we literally made the tree symbol a reality in the layout. The central path was the trunk and the five different areas branching off the trunk became the canopy.
